Release: January 2012

Happy New Year to all our readers. This month’s release has a great time saving feature you have been eagerly waiting for. The update will occur at 2:00am Los Angeles (9:00pm Sydney) time today.

Going forward we are announcing the releases before they occur so you can make yourself aware of changes prior to them occurring. In case you didn’t know Saasu does 2 week development cycles (what our engineers call sprints). We release the features and fixes from these sprints every 4 weeks if they pass our QA Engineer benchmarks.

In this release:

  • Date Merge fields – You can now display dates using merge fields that can calculate. They do their calculations based on the Transaction Dates. Use them in Description and Summary fields. Also use them in Templates and Themes. Some examples are {Date+0D}, {Date+7D}, {Date+1M} and {Date+2W}. This is very useful if you bill for fixed time periods. e.g. If we have an Automated Sale invoice on the 10th of each month that will be recurring I can set up an Automated Sale with the Summary “For {Date+0D} to {Date+1M}” then it will display as “For 10Jan12 to 10Feb12″.
  • Infrastructure upgrade – We get to deploy our new cloud infrastructure which enhances performance and redundancy of the Saasu Web Application. We manage your data in the USA, Hong Kong and Australia.
  • Graphs for iPad – Dashboard cashflow graphs now display in your iPad and iPhone web browser. We have moved from Adobe Flash to HTML5 graphs.
  • Security enhancements – We have removed the 16 character limit on passwords when signing up to allow you to use long form passwords. We have also added a password strength indicator.
  • New Bank Feeds- Lots of new North American banks are coming online including: Chase Bank, Citibank, Wells Fargo Bank, Bank of America, Alpine Banks of Colorado and Toronto Dominion Bank. In credit cards GE Myer Visa and Amex Canada are now available.
  • New Bank CSV Import Formats – We have added Macquarie Bank, Sydney Credit Union, Defence Force Credit Union and Summerland Credit Union.

Thanks for your business!

Is there any timeline on improved styling for templates and themes eg currently there is a big white margin around the templated invoices or quotes, so no support for full page backgrounds. If this is implemented I can’t find it anywhere in the documentation. BTW, great application.

    Good work fellas!,

I would like to see the cash basis for balance sheet reports. Probably not a conventional method but due to the nature of my business debtors is not an accurate current asset.

We don’t support it yet but we will when we release multi-factor authentication support across all the bank feeds we have available next quarter.

What is Saasu’s current level of support for connecting to Citibank business accounts that require secure ID token logins? Account info providers like Yodlee have implemented multi-factor authentication support to some degree. Is this something Saasu has implemented for pulling down transactions automatically from these accounts?

    Hi Brian
Just to clarify – Saasu offers the ability to lock down accounting periods at the enterprise AND user level. We offer transaction settings to control this and a full user/access role area to control what individual users can change in the system.

  6. Brian Alexander

We have been told there is no enterprise lock down of accounting periods, only by user. This surely has to be an enhancement request. How can the Board and CEO make sure there are no changes once the accounts are approved? This is a major environment control deficiency.

Thanks for the feedback Fil – we’re not able to support those security questions at present sorry. We’ll continue to work with our feed provider and hope to have it resolved in a future release.

As far as I can see Citibank Australia is still not working? The extra fields for the additional questions asked are not there yet, so I don’t know in what way Citibank is now supported?

    Hi,
Any chance you could get the date field to come up with auto as its the first line in sales and purchases and sale payments and we are processing on an older date than the default (today). Also it would be good if the date could be remembered instead of changing for every transaction. Very annoying when processing bank income for yesterday. Bank feeds are no good when several operators exist as in ANZ. Process for over-payments by creditors is very ordinary. How about fixing some real issues and deal with less fluff like moveable dashboards.
    cheers

We have a new App in development. We’re not happy with our app either. It was just the first release to let people capture purchases and sales and manage their contacts. We have a dashboard, email of invoices and attachments in future versions.

The current iPhone app is rubbish. I would really love to see the iPhone app show the “web” Dashboard. Saasu is so awesome, but on the road I would sometimes like to look at more than just every sale and every purchase I ever made. If I have someone 30 days overdue, I want to know so I can give him a personal phone call, even when I’m on the road, as I am a lot!! I know you can see this using the full web browser but isn’t that the point of iPhone apps – so you don’t have to resort to fully logging into the internet?

Great product – changed my small business life. Thanks!!

Great stuff, I would love to see a small enhancement to the Date Merge, I would be ideal is we could not only do date but specify format , so for example {date+1M(Month)} would Show February and not 15Feb2012.

This allows for automated invoicing for monthly services that are not specifically date driven, the problem with the current option is If all invoices are issues on the 15th of the Month, how can I show that is covers next month, without manually manipulating the +xD every month to allow for the number of days in the Month.

continuous improvement ! Love to see more CRM features both in the web and also in the iphone app

Well done Marc. Two week development cycles makes its even more obvious why a business would choose Saasu over a desktop application where you have to wait (and pay) for 12 monthly upgrades. It’s also great I can now show cash flow graphs on my iPad which is another feature other cloud accounting packages don’t have. Keep up the great work Saasu and let’s grow the user base in 2012 with more bookkeepers and accountants using Saasu for their business clients.

Some great stuff there. Look forward to the infrastructure upgrade. Its the only weak point of Saasu that I can see, in that sometimes the web interface is sluggish. Particularly the new dashboard. Great work!
